Holige (Obbattu)

Holige (also known as Obbattu) is a traditional Karnataka sweet flatbread specially made for Ugadi festival. This hotel-style recipe creates melt-in-your-mouth soft holige with a sweet lentil and jaggery filling.

Steps

  1. Prepare dough by kneading maida with oil and water
  2. Cook toor dal until soft
  3. Mix cooked dal with jaggery, grated coconut, and cardamom powder to make the filling (purana)
  4. Divide dough into small balls
  5. Stuff each dough ball with the dal-jaggery filling
  6. Roll out stuffed balls into thin flatbreads
  7. Cook on tawa until golden spots appear on both sides
