Holige (Obbattu / Puran Poli)
Soft, melt-in-your-mouth Holige (also known as Obbattu or Puran Poli) is a beloved South Indian sweet flatbread perfect for festivals like Ugadi. This version features a delicious filling made with toor dal, chana dal, and coconut.
Steps
- Mix maida, turmeric, salt, oil, and water to form a soft dough
- Cook toor dal and chana dal until soft
- Mash the cooked dals and mix with jaggery, grated coconut, cardamom powder, and nutmeg to make the filling
- Divide dough into portions and roll out each portion
- Place filling in the center of rolled dough and seal
- Roll out the stuffed dough gently into a flatbread
- Cook on a hot pan until golden spots appear on both sides
