Sweet Pongal

Sweet Pongal is a classic South Indian dessert made with rice, moong dal, jaggery, ghee, and nuts. This traditional recipe creates a soft, creamy sweet that's perfect for festivals, special occasions, or whenever you're craving a comforting homemade treat.

Steps

  1. In a pan, add moong dal and rice and roast until flavorful, adding half a spoon of ghee for aroma
  2. Switch off stove and let the mixture cool
  3. Wash the cooled dal and rice mixture in water
  4. Add 3 to 4 cups of water and cook until mushy
  5. In a pan, add 1 tsp ghee, cashews, and raisins and fry until brown, then remove to a bowl
  6. In the same pan, add jaggery and half cup water and let boil until mixture thickens
  7. Add the cooked dal and rice mixture to the jaggery syrup and mix well
  8. Add milk for good texture
  9. Add 1 tbsp ghee, dried coconut, fried nuts, and cardamom powder
  10. Cook the mixture on low flame for a minute
  11. Serve hot
