Sweet Pongal
Sweet Pongal is a classic South Indian dessert made with rice, moong dal, jaggery, ghee, and nuts. This traditional recipe creates a soft, creamy sweet that's perfect for festivals, special occasions, or whenever you're craving a comforting homemade treat.
Steps
- In a pan, add moong dal and rice and roast until flavorful, adding half a spoon of ghee for aroma
- Switch off stove and let the mixture cool
- Wash the cooled dal and rice mixture in water
- Add 3 to 4 cups of water and cook until mushy
- In a pan, add 1 tsp ghee, cashews, and raisins and fry until brown, then remove to a bowl
- In the same pan, add jaggery and half cup water and let boil until mixture thickens
- Add the cooked dal and rice mixture to the jaggery syrup and mix well
- Add milk for good texture
- Add 1 tbsp ghee, dried coconut, fried nuts, and cardamom powder
- Cook the mixture on low flame for a minute
- Serve hot
